Engineer Trainee/Assistant Engineer (Civil/Transportation)

Under the direction of the Resident Engineer and the Regional Permit Engineer duties include, but are not limited to:
The incumbent is the first point of contact with the public wanting to do work within our Right of Way. Requires a working knowledge of DOT's policies and standards, strong customer service and organizational skills. Offers a variety of fields and administrative duties. The Highway Work Permit Engineer is responsible for receiving and processing work permit applications from people wishing to do work in the Right of Way of State Transportation facilities. The incumbent may be required to supervise operational staff. Permit Engineers work with the public, consulting engineers, contractors and local government officials to provide them with guidance related to work they want to perform within our Right of Way. This includes evaluation of proposed work, coordination of reviews by our Regional Groups (Traffic, Construction, Real Estate, Maintenance, Environmental, Materials and Geotechnical) for policy and standards compliance and managing the permit process to assure that permits are issued in a timely fashion. Inspection and recommendation of acceptance of work in the Right of Way to the Resident Engineer are included duties, restricted vehicle permits as well as Major Highway Work Permits. Additional responsibilities will be discussed at the interview. Responsibilities may also include participating within the Incident Command System to support the Department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations.

Salary Range:
From $56604 to $79577 Annually
Minimum Qualification
To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law. NOTE:
Engineering Traineeship Program:
As an Engineer Trainee, you will serve a 24-month traineeship that leads to Assistant Engineer, Grade 20. To advance to Assistant Engineer, you must have obtained proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) and successfully completed the requirements of the traineeship to the satisfaction of the appointing authority. At the discretion of the appointing authority, early advancement to Assistant Engineer is possible if you have obtained your FE and have successfully completed twelve months of the traineeship. It is your responsibility to notify the appointing authority's personnel office upon obtaining proof of passing the FE. You may receive an increase in salary upon obtaining your FE. Information about this increase will be provided by the appointing authority.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
